Campfire

Campfire is a story about what it means to feel shame and the fear of overcoming it. Told almost entirely without dialogue, the film is unique in its ability to show emotion through looks, actions, and symbolism more than words could hope to achieve. It was a beautiful crystallization of my shame, and it is still challenging to be vulnerable and transparent about it. However, the story is unique in its ability to transcend a personal situation: everyone has felt shame and difficulty being vulnerable. Because of its potential to be interpreted differently by every viewer, Campfire is a testament to a universal pain and the mortifying ordeal of being known.

Personal Statement

From a production standpoint, the film was an exercise in perseverance and problem-solving. The shoot involved a live fire, requiring coordination with local fire marshals and detailed safety planning. Our lighting setup was rigged in trees, which meant balancing creative ambition with strict safety measures on a limited budget. Despite these challenges, we successfully completed the production and ensured that everyone left set safely.
